José Eduardo Agualusa won today, in the literature category, the National Prize for Culture and Arts (PNCA), 2019 edition. The prize was awarded for all his works. According to the jury, throughout his career,"research, historical memory, dystopia, topicality, questioning, reflection and aesthetic sense go hand in hand, contributing to the projection of Angolan literature in the world." The jury also stated that the writer have been contributing "to the strengthening of citizenship and freedom of expression."
The brasilian book editor Tusquets published the short stories book "The elegant terrorist and other stories" by Mia Couto and Agualusa.
The book "The society of the involuntary dreamers" will be presented in Luanda on April 3, at Elinga Theater, at 6:30 p.m.

The Llibreter 2018 Prize for Other Literatures was awarded today by the Gremi de Llibreters from Barcelona to Agualusa for the novel "A General Theory of Oblivion". This book was published in Catalan under the title "Teoria general de l’oblit ".

"General Theory of Oblivion" was voted number 1 by Weltempfänger, a list of the best books outside Europe and North America, prepared by LITPROM, a German non-profit association that brings together editors, journalists and literature professionals.
The novel A General Theory of the Oblivion won the Dublin International Literary Award 2017. The annual prize is awarded to a book published in english (original or translated) and it is shared between the writer and the translator, in this case Daniel Hahn. The books are nominated by public libraries around the world to be analyzed by an international jury. It is the first time that a book originally written in Portuguese wins the prize. Mia Couto was among the finalists this year with the book "Confessions of a Lioness", Lídia Jorge was a finalist in 2003 and José Saramago in 1996.
